Values that we have learnt from our childhood very often form a lasting psychological frame work for us to navigate through life. These values guide and anchor us in our daily decisions, be it small or major ones.

Hence, it is important for us to teach our kids good values when they are young, and display these values ourselves in our household. Here are 3 crucial values to teach your kid by age of five

#1 Honesty

Your child takes after you. The best way to encourage honesty in your child is to be a truthful person yourself.

It is obvious that we shouldn’t lie, however at times we might be tempted to say a white lie to protect another person’s feelings, or for fear of offending the other person. It might seem justifiable as you are doing good by lifting another person up through your words. However, even a seemingly innocuous deception is still a deception, and you kid might take after this. Honesty, is almost always the best policy in this kind of situation. Tell the truth in love instead fo the person to improve. While the other person may not be able to take it right away, but your sincerity will eventually win them, and your kid will be able to emulate what you just did and grow.

#2 Determination

One of the most important determinant of success in life, is how well we react to adversity. As such, determination is a huge factor in developing a sense of confidence, and grit later on in life.

Allow your children to try new things, and encouage them to stay on course if its something that they are really interested in. When they face failures, encourage them, not by excessive praise, but rather by providing honest feedback, delivered in a gentle supportive fashion, and urge them on.

Encourage them to work on things that don’t come easily to them, and praise them for their initiative to develop their sense of confidence.

#3 Love

Kids are naturally generous with their love and affection when they are young. However for them to last and be displayed as they grow up, we have to set a good example for them to follow as well.

Demonstrate your love. Hug and kiss your spouse when the kids are around. Show and talk freely to your kids about your love and appreciation to the people around you.

The more you show love without a reason, the more they will learn. Make them feel free to express their love to us.
